The more I know before a booking, the better I can prepare. A few details sent in advance mean I arrive with the right terminology, at the right place, ready to start.
The details to include
- Date, start time and expected length
- The full address, or the video link and platform
- Type of appointment and subject, for example a GP consultation, a meeting with a solicitor or a parents’ evening
- Language variety: Kurdish (Sorani), Farsi or Dari
- Number and names of participants, so I can check there is no conflict of interest
- A contact for the day, in case of delays or changes
- Any preferences, such as the interpreter’s gender
Documents and background
If the session involves reports, letters, forms or specialist terms, please send them beforehand. Even a short note helps: names, places, medication or legal terms that are likely to come up. Everything you share is kept confidential.
Why the language variety matters
Kurdish has several varieties, and I work in Sorani. Farsi and Dari are closely related, but everyday words and official terms differ. I am a native speaker of Kurdish (Sorani) and Farsi, and I also work in Dari. Telling me which variety the person speaks, and where they are from, helps make sure the booking is the right fit.
