Common questions

What is a certified translation?

It is a complete translation with a signed statement confirming that it is a true and accurate translation of the original document, the date it was translated, and the translator’s full name and contact details. This is what GOV.UK asks for when a document isn’t in English or Welsh. Mine also include my CIOL membership number.

Will the Home Office accept your translations?

My certified translations include everything GOV.UK lists for translated documents. Some organisations ask for extra steps, such as notarisation or an apostille, so tell me where your translation is going and I’ll check what it needs.

Can you arrange notarised translations or an apostille?

Yes. If an organisation asks for a notarised translation, I can arrange for it to be signed before a notary public. For documents going abroad, I can help you prepare them for an apostille from the FCDO Legalisation Office.

Do I need to send the original document?

No. A clear scan or photo of every page is usually enough, as long as all the text, stamps and signatures can be read.
