When you apply for a job, register with a professional body or have your experience assessed in the UK, you may be asked for proof of your work history. Letters and certificates from Iran, Afghanistan or the Kurdistan Region need an accurate English translation, and job titles and dates need particular care.
Documents you may have
- a certificate of employment from your employer, confirming your post and dates
- a reference letter describing your role and duties
- a social security record of insured employment, which lists employers and dates
- contracts, payslips, and letters of appointment or promotion
- professional licences and membership cards
What the translation covers
Everything on the page is translated: the letterhead, the reference number and date, the employee’s details, job titles, periods of employment, duties, and the signatures and stamps. Job titles are translated faithfully, neither upgraded nor simplified, and where a title has no direct English equivalent, a short translator’s note explains it.
Dates and names
Iranian and most Afghan letters are dated in the Solar Hijri calendar, so start and end dates are converted exactly. Names of people and companies are spelled to match your passport and your other documents, so your CV, references and certificates agree.
